So it’s been a busy couple of months, and hopefully a good start for 2009.There's some good things in the woodworks for me in the very near future. And in the present moments it has its perks of being a free agent nor or less. I could fight a lot more, and get to experience different cultures, places, and organizations. Thank God I am staying healthy and my body is allowed to do this, I am very thankful. The past couple months have been very good to me and I hope only to keep up this pace. However, being a free agent has its roadblocks. These bigger shows seem to have a fight settled and your good to go, more stability. These smaller shows over the country for the most part are pretty good. In fact they treat me well, and would surely fight again for the majority of them. Yet I seem to not be able to get videos. Yes, coverage of my fights! Lately this has been a real issue. I just had my second born son. Two Sons, a little army, I am very proud of. I’m watching him and watching my eldest son run around, frolic and swing a baseball bat. I'm thinking to myself: no matter what they do I will always support and love them, yet when they get older and grow through life I'm sure they will appreciate what there old man used to do or at least find it somewhat interesting at one stage or another in there life. SO they come to me and ask about it and I want to show them. I have some videos, the ufc, and ultimate fighter stuff. But for some reason that’s pretty much all I have. I have 18 fights now and maybe 6 videos of those fights. I believe every promotion except for one had a video production. I also believe in most of my shows I was a main event, co main event and remember a camera in my face at all time. No problem! Yet come on promoters I need a video of the fight. Is it that hard for me to get. I just don’t get it, I really don’t. I know in my heart what I did, and it’s cool. But for my kids sake, and my kid's kid's sake I am sure they will want to see. May the legacy live on. So promoters if you got those I'd appreciate it. Look under my stats page here on my website to get me some footage of my fights and just email me here. But besides that little thing I really enjoy fighting around, garnishing experience and being battle tested more and more. This could only help improve my fight game.
As of lately things have been going quite well. My life is either daddy duty or training. Today its website stuff so I could have a coffee and chill. Soon I will teach my classes at Team quest. I teach submission wrestling, teen mma, and adult mma than I will get hit in the face. Face punching is a lot more fun than teaching I will have to admit. Teaching has its perks but its tough. Fighting is tough but alot more fun. But our training camp is going good. Thierry just won in Japan, along with Joe warren. Dan Henderson's fight is coming up so I’ve been training my ass off with him quite a bit. And he hits quite hard. Plus we got new addition to train with off the new season of the ultimate fighter, which is a nice addition. Lew polly also won his fight. He’s a big, tough, dude; he beat Vernon white quite nicely. Plus the handful of other tough dudes at team quest south makes training in Temecula one of the best places in the world to train at. I commute roughly over 30 minutes there everyday and I'd do it if it were an hour as well. Its worth it and I am very confident with my skill. We also have Cyril diabate, a renowned kick boxer and very accomplished mma veteran. He’s impossible to hit and quite scrappy. SO training is going well. Very good jiu jitsu they’re as well. Poncho my jiu jitsu coach promised me a belt, which is really cool of him. I wish I could train even more with him. He’s very knowledgeable and I love the ground game. When IM not training I’m watching one of my new kids or both. Training for me also consists of cross training. I’m a big believer in this and even if your not fight training you should always be running, lifting, swimming, sprinting, or doing something active and strenuous. This keeps your body together and helps you grow strong with age. People forget about this and I think it often leads to there decline. A secret of my training is this, and I should not reveal this, yet since I’ve been fighting so much and being successful a trick to how it work is this: I train every day I tell myself. 7 days a week, however, I listened to my finely tuned body. If it’s out of tune or is telling me I listen and will take a day off to rest up. However if its not I will keep pushing it through training. Have no set training schedule, just listen. I also have my own style of training but that’s just one secret.
And to the last part of this glorious blog. My last fight in Texas went quite well. I fought Eric "big head" Davila. And he lives up to his nickname. He literally has the biggest head I’ve ever seen. He’s tough, he’s never been finished in the first round and has fought quite a bit of notables such as matt hughes, benji radach to name a few. He makes every fight a fight. And before the fight everyone’s telling me that he breaks peoples hands with his head. So IM thinking my striking is good these days but frankly I don’t want to break my hand. Plus knowing me Ill probably have a fight in a couple weeks again so why risk injury. SO I did the safe bet. I took him down. For some odd reason he exposed his back. I like taking the back these days. And felt quite corm table there. And the best advice was from the ref. Before the fights he said "if your on his back, im not going to stop the fight cause that’s a dominant and winning position" and he’s right. SO I just latched on to his back and peppered him with some punches. Eventually I sank the rear naked choke. Everyone was telling me not to do the choke cause he had no neck. Yet I found it, and in my head felt it was bigger so easier to latch on to and hang on for dear life. That’s what I did and eventually got the tap. He's the man though, after I wanted an authentic Eric "big head" Davila shirt. I asked if he has any more pink shirts. He had one more and gave me the shirt of his back. I thought that was really cool of him. The best part about this sport is fighting the second best part is the people you meet. Thanks Texas, even though before they wanted to lynch me, was fighting their hometown hero. You guys rock. And hey shark fights, get me a copy of the video.
To my next fight. I was supposed to fight around the corner and wont mention names cause it aint my style. Were in this business to fight, hopefully we can all just get along and fight one another without saying no or contract stipulations. Anyway I was supposed to fight June 20th in my hometown. The whole show got postponed for shady operations, and people not wanting to fight one another. And yes I’m frustrated cause this is how I make a living. This is what supports me, puts gas in my sexy 4 runner, and food in my son's mouths. So when I don't fight in a particular month and am used to fighting that often I become quite upset. Big things in the woodworks for July, and promoters or anyone who sees this IM still ready to fight in June. Who know's I just might? I have a good feeling something will come up. okay peace all. Thanks for checking in!!
